Bugatti has put an end to the brief, corrupt reign of Shelby SuperCars’ Aero SSC TT as the fastest production car in the world.
On June 26, Bugatti test driver Pierre Henri Raphanel drove an orange-and-black Veyron 16.4 Super Sport to an average top speed of 268 mph (431 kph) at VW Group’s test facility at Ehra-Leissien. Representatives of Guinness World Records and the German Technical Inspection Agency – the keeper of such things in Deutschland – were on hand to verify the result.
The title of world’s fastest production car has been in dispute, if not disgrace, the past couple of years, after the American company (no relation to car designer and racer Carroll Shelby, oddly) made a claim on the record in fall of 2008. On September 13, 2008, a rudely built, twin-turbo V8-powered SSC Ultimate Aero TT averaged 256 mph along a stretch of farm road and – having convinced the people of Guinness that the car was, in fact, a series production automobile – Guinness declared that the SSC car was the new fastest production car in the world, overtaking the 1,000-hp, $1.3-million Bugatti Veyron 16.4, which held the record at 253 mph since 2005.
Needless to say, having his company’s half-billion-Euro effort eclipsed by a bunch of supercar wildcatters working out of somebody’s garage in the U.S. did not go down well with Franz-Josef Paefgen, the president of Bugatti and a board member with parent company VW Group. “This is not a real car, is it?” said Dr. Paefgen when I asked him about the SSC in 2009. (Answer: not really). “But don’t worry, we have much more capability in the Veyron. You’ll see.”
And so we have.
The Veyron Super Sport is indeed a big step up from your run-of-the-mill, drive-off-the-lot Veyron. Output is increased to 1,200 hp and torque is up to a mind-bending 1,106 pound-feet out of the monster quad-turbo W16 engine, thanks to enlarged turbochargers and intercoolers. The Super Sport also features revised suspension to manage the enormous aero downforce at speeds about 260 mph.
As for Shelby SuperCars, it seems to have sunk beneath the waves. The press materials have not been updated on the company’s website since last summer. I have made repeated attempts to reach the company in the past two years, with no success.

1998 Toyota Supra | One of the nicest in the Country

This car now makes over 1100rwhp@35psi on VP Q16 fuel. This is a 100% STREET CAR. It made 640rwhp@19psi on pump gas! This car is perfection. You want a street driveable car with power? Look no further. This car drives like it has a stock ECU in it. No hesitation in any spots, flawless countless hours of tuning(over 20) from previous owner and my tuner Luke Stubbs(Aem certified)
This car has been re-done to perfection. A brand new FACTORY ORIGINAL white paint job to make the car 100% flawless. A fresh rebuilt motor built .040 over with CP pistons and Carillo H beam rods.(a more extensive mod list will be below) A brand new getrag 6 speed tranny along with a brand new 6 speed rear end. Also all new drivetrain parts as well as a new Sound performance 1 piece driveshaft. This car looks like it’s brand new from 98, and drives like it too. There are 118,000 miles on the body, however mostly highway miles from the previous owner. The compression #'s are stunning coming in at 165-170 across the board with the new built motor. Everything has low miles on it, interior is new and flawless, always garaged and babied.
BRAND NEW interior(were talking about everything). New leather for the front and rear seats from leatherseats.com(700.00), all new complete 98 dash panels(yes these are discontinued now and impossible to find), new factory 6 speed shift knob and boot, both left and right 98 door panels(1400.00), white led gauges and climate control, and all the other interior lighting is white to match. This car has never been in the Midwest except for the short ownership for me.
As far as boost goes on this car, you guys should like this. In the center console are 2 switches. 1 is for boost, 1 is for the 2-step. When the boost switch is off, your regular 19psi will be ran on pump gas. Flip the switch on, it automatically changes the AEM map for the c16 map and raises the boost to 35psi! The car is just flat out ridiculously fast.
Same goes with the 2 step switch. When it’s off there will be no 2 step, flip it on and its set at 5000rpm.
And for those of you worried about tuning, don't be. It has a 11.0 afr across the board keeping it very safe and not even pushing it an ounce! The C16 map is also set at a conservative 11.5 afr throughout the power band. The Wideband on this car is also very slick! It's hidden behind the STOCK CLOCK so people can't even tell you have a gauge in the car! There is no boost gauge as one is not needed because of that switch installed into the AEM EMS ECU. And don't be worried about over boosting, I had it set up so it cannot go over 20.5psi on pump gas(switch off) and with the switch on, I had the boost cut at 35psi just for insurance purposes. With the switch on, users should run c16 only.
I have stuck over 100k in the last couple years restoring this car to perfection with all the new parts purchased for this car, not to mention all the money the previous owner stuck in it with all the work done at WOTM through Ryan. I have all the receipts. Please, no lowballers.

There is a book of recites for all of the parts and labor of this car. Its about 5 inches thick. I take wonderful care of this car. Its no WI car either, no rust, never sees rain or snow. I wash it every other day I drive it. I would like to sell this car to someone who understands what I did here and appreciates this car as much as I do. I want someone to take care of this car and keep it garage kept. This is not an ideal car for an amateur or beginner. The idea behind this car was to have the full drag potential followed by the luxury of the leather seats, perfect interior and the brand new smell of all the new trim pieces. This car is one big, fast, luxury car.

Federal Legal Nissan Skylines

So those of you who have been reading GTRUSA Blog along with this blog, should know that the Federal Government is making owning a JDM vehicle, hard to do so. Kaizo (in my opinion) will be the beginning to a whole lot more than just a few cars getting seized. Following the seizure of a handful of cars, there were problems with titles in NJ and reports of issues in FL and AZ as well.
I do believe that this will only escalate. I think that each State's licensing department (DMV) will start an investigation to determine which grey market vehicles are legal and which are illegal (Federal vs Parts Cars) At least, they will revoke or deny titles, at worse they will send an agent or highway patrol to inspect the car to see if in fact they meet regulations. IF you do own JDM vehicle, sometimes the best thing to do is just track it, and not title it. Either way, its a bad situation to be in.
Here at Broker Pros, there are several Federal Legal and even a couple CARB Legal Skylines for sale. They are a bit pricey compared to what you can get a parts car for, but the end result will never add up as saved money. If you own a Federal Legal Skyline, chances are you will not get harrased by any law enforcement agency (unless you are doing burnouts, traveling at a high speed, or letting your external wastegates rawr in the middle of the night)
